Exported sound events, and expanding the community
Greetings,
Long time RPG Soundmixer user here. After all these years, this is still my favorite RPG tool. I won't go to the table without it.
There are a couple of functions that I think would increase the usability of RPG SoundMixer and would facilitate community growth and expand the user base.
I have a very large collection of sound scenarios in my various libraries. I would really like to be able to export a single sound event and pack the media files it uses inside the export. That way, I could share it with others without having to identify the sound files and directory structure used and packing them separately.
I know you can just save an event as a new library and pack the files into the library, but that makes for problems importing it into existing libraries. Perhaps if there were an option to merge libraries. Then you could create a library with a single sound event in it, save the library and pack the used files into it, share it, then merge the new library with an existing library.
It would also be nice if, once you receive a packed sound event or library from another user (with the media compressed into the file), you could extract the packed media files and add them to your collection. I realize there may be copyright issues, so adding an option to secure the files in the archive (that is, make them so they cannot be unpacked), would be useful. This function would allow you to reduce the size of a large library full of shared sound events from other users by extracting the media from the archive and storing it locally (thus reducing the library definition file to a few kilobytes and increasing load times).
I think these two options (or at least the first one), would foster sharing and increase the user base. If I can get these options, I'll set up a page to share my sound events. Hopefully others would as well.
Note: It could be that this is already possible and I don't know how to do it. If so, please enlighten me

Edit: After a little experimentation, I've discovered that when you load a new library, it automatically extracts the relevant files... making the majority of my post useless.
It's funny that after 7 or 8 years of using RPG Soundmixer, I just discovered this *blush*
Disregard.
